Domestic Abuse Training for Housing Options Teams

Aim – Housing Options teams consistently give all survivor/victims a trauma-informed and safe response.

Description

This beginner-level course aims will give housing options teams the knowledge, skills and tools to ensure all victim/survivors receive a safe, coordinated and trauma-informed response when they present as homeless. It has been designed specifically for housing options teams in local authorities and acknowledges some of the common barriers these teams face in recognising and responding to customers who present as homeless due to domestic abuse.

Module 1 (half day) will give delegates an in-depth awareness of what coercive control is and how the patterns of abuse impact the survivor/victim. Module 2 (half day) enables housing options teams to explore what a safe and trauma-informed response looks like in practice. Both modules are highly interactive and use Mentimeter, case studies, quizzes, videos and breakout room discussions to engage the delegates.

  • Definition and prevalence of domestic abuse
  • Dynamics of coercive control
  • Impacts of abuse and the risks around leaving
  • Discussing what the DA Act 2021 entitles victims/survivors to
  • Common barriers to awarding priority banding
  • Implementing a trauma-informed approach in practice
  • Exploring a different way to recognise risk
  • A coordinated response to domestic abuse and the role of specialist services
  • Exploring options to keep survivor/victims safe at home

Delegate Feedback: "I think it is imperative for people putting victims of domestic abuse into housing to know this information"

Please note: It is important that the housing options teams have a quiet space to access the training and are given time to prioritise the learning. We cannot deliver this online course if learners are in a busy office being distracted by colleagues, calls and other work. We request delegates have their camera on and come ready to engage.
