Domestic Abuse Awareness: A Foundation in Coercive Control

This beginner level/refresher training is essential learning for all housing professionals to identify coercive and controlling behaviours and consider the impact of living with abuse from a partner, ex-partner or family member.

All housing teams need to be able to answer these questions.

• What does ‘personally connected’ mean in the Domestic Abuse Act 2021?
• Does leaving the abusive relationship make the victim/survivor safe?
• Why do victim/survivors often return to abusive partners?
• What is housing’s role in increasing the early identification of victim/survivors of domestic abuse?

This 3.5 hour awareness course will answer these questions and give housing practitioners the confidence to identify coercive control and pass concerns on to specialist response teams.

Delegates will explore the tactics that perpetrators often use to create dependency, manipulate and control the victim/survivor. All attendees will also receive a delegate pack which includes information from the course and a list of specialist toolkits and national domestic abuse support lines.

Please note: This course forms Module 1 of all our Role Specific training to ensure all teams have a strong foundational knowledge of coercive control.  It does not cover the skills frontline teams need to ask, validate, assess and take action once they have identified domestic abuse.

Please note – This is a domestic abuse awareness course. If you have a customer facing role, DAHA recommend that you also attend training that will give you the skills, tools and confidence to ask, assess and take action when identifying and responding to domestic abuse.

All fees are for up to 20 delegates (minimum 6 delegates to run a course).
